  • I have ever heard about how to spend our life happily in a lecture by a psychiatrist. The first is to enjoy nature, the second is to enjoy culture and art, and the third is to have a good conversation with the person whom we like. When I heard this, I realized that my life was thankfully happy and beautiful as dwell on the past. In fact, I learned how to love nature while studying in France, and then whenever I see good exhibitions and performances, I get the kind of trenmendous power which I can not express. And I live by trying to learn and feel a lot of them from broader and larger perspective than sticking to expressing unilateral personal opinion or thought through conversation with good people, and also what I can be happier is that I live my life as an artist who is able to give people such happiness. I want to be an artist so as to make people happy and see the world with new colors.I am proud of myself for this wonderful work. I sometimes think that many people are living their life in dry reality. I hope that these will live by dreaming and seeing the wide world through nature and art. Meanwhile, I have happily lived my life with them together with good people.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Water act : raise the trasparent membrane 2017

I think that the art world is divided into two parts " the outside world and the inside working world" by the center of the invisible baseline. The former contains the landscape of every day life surrounding me, the latter is regarded as having more different atmosphere than the former as if it is existing in a remote place located in the opposite areas of the earth. I have been doing this kind of the inside working world to distinguish it from the outside world in the art world.

I have made it possible for visitors to look through the exhibitions along the left side of the wall bottom face of the exhibition hall displaying the parts of two sorts of works from their initial installation stages to recent stages. They are in order of HM space in 2017, the device that helps the rambutans become the sea urchins in 2016, and the worktable 51-202-2015, LA Machine in 2013. And we have felt a common attitude that these parts are existing in each different place because they are the works unraveled at respectively different times and stories.

I hope the work that is almost in contact with the artificial wall will have a position in the new space created from the transparent membrane through " WATER ACT " which means the act of creating a waterway around the work as some water is put on the pebbles. The water path drawn on the floor remains as a trace of the moment through the water mark, but it soon disappears and then remains transparent during the " WATER ACT ‘’ .

I felt the sound produced from this kind of actions resembled it of runnig water. And this sound seemed to be more clear in the space of the new location by putting color into the transparent air circles around the work.

Hello. I am Lee Yongbaek.

First, I would like to ask a general question about the outside and inside. It’s hard to understand. What is the classification for? For what reason would you want to classify?
Let’s assume it has been classified. I still would like to ask “so for what?” Are you talking about ego and the environment?
In general, politicians, legal professions tend to clarify classifications and boundaries, and the history show that the artists are the ones who break or ignore the classifications and boundaries.

The objects in the artwork look like objects chosen by you, but how many of them are created for the work?
It doesn't feel like a whole concept with a consistent plan from the production to the installation in the space.
Rather than an installation about a space, it gives an impression of arrangement along the wall. And it’s hard to recognize relationships that the sound makes.

Sound of a leather-like object beating on the floor and a metal tapping with resonance are repeated three to five times. Nothing is complete unless you put it in final shape. All media should be coagulated and assembled into one direction first to take the course of deconstruction. The concept of complete construction exists in the term deconstruction. It is possible to deconstruct after a complete construction.

It’s hard to fully understand an artwork from a glimpse. However, something is keep shaking when looking at the statement and the artwork together. It feels like that somethings intervene the first idea and it’s being lost.
If every object is a letter, letters should come to form a sentence.
I don’t see a sentence.
